Why Is My Massage Gun Not Turning On? Simple Fixes

massage gun not turning on

So you’ve bought yourself a massage gun and after a few uses (or maybe a few months) suddenly it’s not turning on? Unfortunately, this isn’t as uncommon a problem as you might think. It’s a disappointing and frustrating experience, particularly if you haven’t been using your massager for long. A good massage gun doesn’t come cheap. While most warranties are only for 1 year, that’s the absolute MINIMUM time you should expect your device to work. Most massage guns, if used according to the manufacturer’s instructions, should last for years. So why is my massage gun not turning on? Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why, so that you can get back to using yours as soon as possible!

Why is my massage gun not turning on? Top 3 reasons

There are a few different reasons that your massage gun might not switch on. Most have an easy fix. If these don’t work, you may need to contact the manufacturer if your product is still under warranty.

Here are the top 3:

Power not switched on

This might seem obvious, but is the massage gun switched on properly? Some require you to hold the power button for a few seconds for the power to come on. Are the lights coming on?

Battery is too low

While your battery might seem like it has some power in it (most massage guns have LED battery power indicator lights that show you this) it may just need a charge. Fully charge your device before trying to switch it on again. The LED lights will display the battery life and let you know when the battery is full.

Keep in mind that massage guns should NOT be turned on while charging. Some have a safety feature that will prevent the power from being turned on while the device is plugged in.

Device has overheated

Some massage guns are designed to switch off automatically if overheated. It’s quite common for your massage gun to naturally get warmer while using it for extended periods of time. In hot environments, keep in mind that it can get hotter faster. Your manufacturer’s manual will usually give you an indication of what is a safe amount of time to use your device before it overheats. Most massagers should not be used for more than 30 minutes – 1 hour continuously. This can vary though depending on the model.

If it does overheat and switches off automatically, you won’t be able to turn it back on immediately. It will need some time to cool down. Give it at least 30 minutes. Usually, when it has cooled down sufficiently you will be able to turn it back on again. If your device is being used normally but is overheating on a regular basis, you should stop using it and contact customer service for advice.

I’ve checked all these, it’s still not turning on

The above are the main reasons why your massage gun might not be powering on. There’s not much more that you can do yourself, unfortunately. If it’s fully charged and still not working, you’re going to have to seek help.

Look for your warranty information

Your best course of action is to contact the customer service department of the company you purchased from. If your device is still within the warranty period (usually 1 year) you should be able to get a repair or a replacement free of charge. Usually, the warranty will only cover the product if it fails due to defects in materials or workmanship. If damage was caused by accident, misuse or mishandling you probably won’t be covered. Your product manual should have the information you need on the warranty and contact details, or have a look at the website you purchased from.

Don’t try to fix it yourself

If a massage gun is subjected to an authorized repair this will usually void the warranty so don’t attempt to fix it yourself. The product should never be taken apart or repaired by anyone other than an authorized representative for the company you purchased from.

Why does a massage gun fail?

There are a lot of things that can go wrong with a massage gun. Device not turning on, battery not holding a charge, device shutting off randomly, faulty parts, rattling noises, motor seizing etc. In my experience, these are mainly problems with cheaper models and lesser-known (or generic) brands.  Unfortunately, these can be hard to get a fix or replacement from.

That doesn’t mean that you won’t ever have a problem with an expensive massage gun though – any electrical product can fail. Don’t let it put you off buying a massage gun, or upgrading the one you’ve got. The benefits of a good massage gun far outweigh the potential for any problems you might experience.

Conclusion

If your massager is not turning on, there are really only a few things that you can check. Is the power switched on properly? Is the battery charged enough? Have you been using it for too long, causing it to overheat? I wish I could tell you more, but this pretty much covers all the things that you can check yourself.

If it’s none of those things, it’s time to contact customer service. Any electrical item can fail, and if it’s still within warranty you may be able to get a free repair or replacement. We don’t recommend you attempt fixing it yourself because you’ll only risk voiding your warranty.

Good luck! Now you know what to do, it’s time to get that massage gun working again!
